Why Don’t You Embrace Forgiveness this New Year?

The New Year is around the corner and I have been thinking about the area of self-improvement on which I would want myself and my readers to focus their energy on in the coming year. The one area that catches my attention concerns embracing forgiveness.

Do you find it difficult to forgive others even though you understand that the power of forgiveness is one of the greatest traits and it can help you unleash miracle powers?

What is important to understand is that forgiveness is not important for someone else but for your own self. It is important because like anyone else you also deserve to be happy.

Each one of us encounters a situation in life where the other person has been grossly wrong to us. Because of someone else’s actions, we have felt immense pain, humility, and anger in the past. The result is immense hatred we develop for that person. This feeling keeps coming back time and showing itself in several forms. Even if we don’t realize this feeling continues poisoning our energy and thoughts. It engulfs us so badly that even if we want to escape it, we don’t know how to do it.

Here are some things that you may do if you wish to counter hate and want to forgive people in your life:

1. Acceptance is the Key

One of the most effective methods is humbly accepting what wrong others did and praying for their wellness indeed. And by asking for strength to forgive them for what they did. You might not believe this but by simply offering prayers we can give ourselves an opportunity to grow and connect with our true selves.

Turn within and you’ll find that you made some mistakes in your life too. And, there were people who forgave you, allowed themselves to be free and moved on. If you expected others to do it, why can’t you do the same thing?

I would have probably never understood the significance of forgiveness if not for my friend who was compassionate enough in forgiving me for the wrong I did to her. Often, I encounter a situation where I am forced to think if that friend of mine could forgive me, why I can’t forgive the person in front of me. More than anything else, she won my immense love, respect, and admiration by the virtue of forgiveness.

2. Free Yourself

By letting it go, you free yourself from the suffering of the past and lay the foundation for a happier tomorrow. When you refuse to forgive someone, you hold yourself back from everything that you can be or you would want to be. Remember, by forgiving that person you tend to do something good for you and not for the person who wronged you. It’s something you do for you. Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you’re going to trust that person in the future. Forgiveness is something that helps you overcome negative feelings of rage, anger, and depression.

3. Give Away With a Full Heart

The feelings of compassion and kindness increase your abundance. You make a life by what you give. As you become more compassionate and open, you will realize that your problems will tend to become smaller. Forgiveness that is, giving away with a full heart is the key to being compassionate unconditionally. Holding on to things will only give you mental stress, weigh you down and deplete you of your energy. Whereas, there are multiple health benefits associated with forgiveness and compassion. It diminishes the negative energy and inner conflicts within you by restoring positivity.

Finally, you need to practice forgiveness to experience the healing effect it has. Also, you need to practice it because it is a positive emotion. You must, however, remember your job is to forgive and not forget. It’s just that you cannot improve them but you can make a choice to improve your own life.
